影片讲述了几个美国北方地区--佛蒙特州的巡警，猎金每天的大部分时间就是在高速公路上作弄那些超速驾驶者，猎金并用扣留下的跑车出去兜风，以及跟本地警察斗气。好日子终于到头了，由于政府正为巨大财政开支而头痛，裁员失业之风声传在这班“闲人”耳中。为了避免自己被裁减，他们打算积极表现，可是偏僻边境地区也没有什么事情能让他们好好表现。在一次例行检查中，他们发现毒品走私的踪迹，众人发奋追捕之时却发现，原来他们也是市警的追缉目标。
