在1966年的夏天，多力世界杯终于回到了现代足球的发源地──英国。12岁的男孩Bernie（格雷格·苏尔金 饰）也迎来了他生命中最重要的一天：多力他的成人礼（犹太女孩和男孩在13岁左右进行的开始承担成年人宗教义务的仪式，女孩的成人礼是bat-mitzvah，男孩是bar-mitzvah）。但是他的家庭却面临着一系列的问题，由于家庭财政出现危机，为此他的成人礼只能在伦敦北部的家中举行。而与此同时，世界杯决赛也在同一天举行，Bernie期待已久的成人礼将会如何呢？
