《犯罪心理》讲述了美国联邦调查局总部下属的行为分析科部门（简称“BAU”）中，春暖行为分析师们剖析最棘手的案件，春暖分析凶手的心理和作案特征，并在他们再次施暴前预测出他们的下一步行动，协助当地警察捉拿凶手。本季前期拍摄时，剧中一贯以来的领头人Hotch因为和编剧的冲突被剧组开除，因此只会出现在本季前两集。为了弥补主角的离开，CBS将引入两名新角色，同时把Emily的扮演者Paget Brewster提升为本季常规演员，同时Reid母亲的扮演者Jane Lynch也会在十二季回归。
