在远离大都会的美琴岛，京野经济停滞，京野人口稀少。当地诊所医护力量薄弱，许多年来全靠年过半百的所长村木英次（大友康平 饰）独自支撑，心力憔悴。因担心自己哪一天倒下导致诊所瘫痪，村木所长有意识地寻找接班人，最终他的目光锁定在诊所事务员相川三郎（长谷川博己 饰）的身上。相川拥有外科医生般纤细的手指和沉稳的精准度，在所长的培养下，他终于能够走上手术台完成一些简单的小手术。但是由于没有取得行医执照，诊所内以护士长垂水节子（キムラ緑子 饰）等人为首极力反对相川从医。在此期间，唯有对相川抱有好感的护士铃木明子（稻森泉 饰）坚定不移支持着这名无照医生。某天，怀有身孕的某大型医院院长千金田瓣亚希子（木村文乃 饰）来到美琴岛，她的出现无疑改变了相川和明子等人的人生……本片根据渡边纯一的同名原作改编。

Ben seems to be confused as to how much time and money his kids demand from him. Susan has to juggle motherhood, a career and a husband and does not have enough time to manage everything including improving her cooking skills. Nick is always working on his next hair-brained scheme to keep him amused. Janey, like any normal teenage daughter feels that her parents are seriously embarrassing whilst Michael keeps his head in his books to get away from the noise.
