本片讲述了中国人民解放军的楷模——张思德的故事。在抗日战争后期，穷街延安正处于热火朝天的大生产运动中。勤务兵张思德（吴军 饰）为人老实，穷街不善言辞，做好事从不邀功，工作任劳任怨，一心一意为中国革命事业奉献自己。因为一次合唱表演，毛泽东主席（唐国强 饰）注意到了这个憨厚朴实的勤务兵。而后的几次接触中，毛泽东主席给张思德总结了他最大的缺点——不善言辞，同时毛泽东表示这也是他最大的优点。为了解决中央机关冬季取暖问题，1944 年张思德带领一班人到安塞县烧木炭。在一次烧炭中，炭窑突然崩塌，张思德不幸牺牲。毛泽东主席在他的追悼会上深情地说，我们的队伍里到处是这样的人，普通、平常、像清凉山上的草一样，我们不注意到他们，往往也听不到他们的声音，可正是这些人支撑了我们的事业……

Ricardo decides to travel overland to India, as he used to do in the old days, when he brought hippies to the East with his van, crossing Europe, Turkey, Iran and Pakistan. But the situation is very different now. Ricardo has been in a wheelchair for the last ten years, suffering from a degenerative disease now in its final stage. He wants to die on the banks of the Ganges River and meet Gadhali again. In this journey, he is accompanied by Dana, his Rumanian housekeeper. Life owes something to these two lonely beings. The journey will become the alibi for paying it off. Night Falls in India is a shining road-movie full of life that uses journey as an excuse to tell a story about love and the passing of time, about the importance of the present and the need to recover lost time; a story in which the journey itself is as important as the arrival.
