书生张君瑞（吴卓羲 饰）和相府千金崔莺莺（叶璇 饰）的丫鬟红娘（胡杏儿 饰）在元宵灯会上分别捡到半边鸳鸯扣，国产可惜有情人一直不知。而张君瑞在灯会上展示的过人文才倾倒了崔莺莺，国产红娘亦对他颇有好感。随后一次偶然机会，君瑞碰上贼人意图掳走崔莺莺，舍命相救终于保存了莺莺的名节，崔相国应承了讲莺莺许配给君瑞。岂料相国夫人看不起君瑞的出身，坚持要君瑞考取功名后方可迎娶莺莺，于是，君瑞住进了西厢，努力读书等待考期来临。另一方面，当今皇帝唐德宗化妆成富家公子王文彬四周游玩，碰见恶劣崔莺莺，为她的美貌倾倒，于是想尽办法接近莺莺，并想方设法逗她开心。莺莺开始觉得王文彬十分无聊，但通过接触渐渐喜欢上了他。红娘在和君瑞接触中亦渐渐喜欢上了他，这一段四角恋爱最终能否皆大欢喜？
